A Rich History of Summer Fun:
The Asheville JCC has a vibrant legacy of over 70 years of summer recreational swimming. Prior to the 1960/70s, Jewish families were not allowed at most private and some community pools here in Asheville, which was a primary reason why the Asheville JCC built a pool in the 1950s. The JCC’s pool quickly became a central and beloved part of local Jewish families’ summer experience while being inclusive and open to people of all faith traditions. We take great pride and enjoyment in continuing these traditions today.
Up until the new year-round aquatics facility opened in 2017, the JCC only had a summer seasonal pool that operated from Memorial Day until Labor Day. When we opened a year-round aquatics facility in 2017, it created the opportunity to increase aquatics programming throughout the year via robust lap swimming, rentals, swim lessons, spring board diving lessons, and our competitive youth swim teams – the Smokin’ Salmon and Gefilte Fish. Lap swimming times, developmental stroke lessons, and community rentals have less availability in the summer, allowing us to prioritize our beloved summer recreational swimming tradition, as well as host regular swim times for the JCC’s 70-year-old day camp, Camp Ruach.
Summer Pool FAQ
Can I bring guests with me to the pool?
JCC members with an aquatics package may bring guests to the David Zimerman pool with limitations. Click here and click on “guests” for details.
Can my child sign up for swim lessons at the JCC?
Swim lessons are in extremely high-demand in Asheville, and the JCC does our best to accommodate as many emerging swimmers as possible. To be considered for summer swim team, swimmers must be between 5-18 years of age AND have the ability to swim independently 25 yards freestyle and back stroke.
