Cook Team at the Veteran’s Shelter

ABCCM Veterans Restoration Quarters, 1329 Tunnel Road
Five to eight volunteers prepare and serve lunch for up to a 100 homeless vets at the ABCCM Veterans Restoration Quarters and Inn. Serving lunch to the veterans is a rewarding mitzvah as it not only helps meet the nutritional needs of the men but also gives our volunteers a chance to interact with the veterans on a one-to-one basis.

Room in the Inn (www.homewardboundwnc.org) is a Homeward Bound program which provides a mobile shelter to 12 homeless women each night. CBHT volunteers’ partner with St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the Ethical Society of Asheville to provide all of the meals, shelter, evening activities and friendship for RITI women during two different weeks of the year. The goal of RITI is to help the women stabilize their lives and move into permanent housing. The retention rate for the clients who have been permanently housed is 93%!

Hilde’s House and Shalom Children’s Center Seeks Fun-Loving Volunteers
Hours Minimum – 1 Day/ 2 hours Per Week
Hilde’s House and Shalom Children’s Center are seeking volunteers to provide assistance to classroom teachers with child and infant care activities, either in the classroom, in the gym, or outside on the playground.
Garden Assistant
Hours: Flexible but a minimum of 8 hours/week

The Garden intern will assist the Garden Specialist in maintaining the Children’s Gardens at the Main Building and the PreK building including soil building, planting, transplanting, weeding, watering, and other maintenance tasks. The intern will help to keep the Garden areas safe and clean for the children and will assist in preparing materials for the Garden lessons.
