The demolition of the locker rooms started on schedule last week, and so far things seem to be moving along quickly. The Construction Committee had a very productive meeting with the architects and contractor Thursday. We gave a thumbs up to the new Aquatics Facility designs in order to proceed with the bidding process. Very exciting!
Mark Horowitz from the JCC Association (with the very long title of “Vice President, Director, Sheva Center for Innovation in Early Childhood Jewish Education & Engagement”) will come to Asheville on November 14th to meet with Kate, Early Childhood Director, architect Dorothea Schultz, and Lael Gray, JCC Executive Director, to provide consultation. In particular, we hope he will help us to get very clear on how environment serves as the third teacher through the Sheva lens. He is very interested in designing with a sense of place – in other words, what will make our space feel like an extension of our unique Asheville community?
At the Construction Committee’s next meeting on November 17th we will begin to focus more on the new early childhood wing – now that we’ve got the locker room renovations started and pool designs under our belts.
