Jewish Film Series
May 22, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
This series allows us to use film as our window into the mind as we dissect films with Jewish themes. Each meeting takes place on the third Sunday of the month at 3:00 and includes a free showing of the film followed by a discussion led by film professor Barbara Weitz.
The JCC Jewish Film Series is privileged to screen one of Israel’s most classic, world-famous films, Berlin Jerusalem, by an Israeli film legend, director Amos Gitai.
This film is on the list of MOMA’s 100 classic films and was shown again at MOMA in 2020.
It presents the story of two historical pioneers, Else Lasker-Schüller, a German expressionist poet, and Tania Shohat, a Russian socialist activist, both journeying to the Promised Land to fulfill the Zionist dream-made-reality and the delusions that follow and become the new reality.
“There is lamentation in the world/As if God had died/And we are in his cemetery”—Else Lasker-Schüller
