May 1, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Community-wide Yom HaShoah Service with guest speaker Maestro Murry Sidlin
Join Murry Sidlin, President and Creative Director of The Defiant Requiem Foundation, and conductor of the upcoming performance of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín, to explore The Harmony of Terezín.
In a place where as many as 60,000 people were imprisoned in a space designed for 7,000. Where 88,000 were sent to death camps and almost 40,000 more were murdered by malnutrition and disease, prisoners gave 2,400 lectures, over 1,000 concerts, and maintained a “new music studio” of approximately 20 composers. Resisting their captors with music, art, courage and hope, these prisoners found that the harmony of music and music-making allowed them to recall the harmony of home, of life, family, and future. Join Murry Sidlin, President and Creative Director of The Defiant Requiem Foundation, and conductor of the upcoming performance of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín, to explore The Harmony of Terezín. This event is free and open to the public.
