Carolina Mountain Naturalists will be our community partner for the Shalom Children’s Center Tzedakah (charity) project this year!
As you may know, it is customary for Jewish children to collect coins in a Tzedakah box and donate it to charity. Each classroom at Shalom has their own Tzedkah box that we will collect coins in each Friday during Tot Shabbat Shindig. Then, at the end of the school year, we will share the proceeds with Carolina Mountain Naturalists to help our community partner continue to educate many children around the WNC area.
Carolina Mountain Naturalists is a privately owned educational service which specializes in the presentation of various natural history programs. They are a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and certified NC Wildlife Damage Control Agent. Carlton Burke, operator and educator, is a retired educator with the WNC Nature Center where he was the Curator of Exhibits for 25 years. Carolina Mountain Naturalists was established in the early 1980s in response to a growing need for quality nature programs which could travel to schools, camps, and other organizations.
To kick off our Tzedakah project, Burke came to share some animals with our Shalom Children’s Center. The children loved seeing the owl, and touching snakes.
