If you have a heart for the elders in our community, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to learn how you can make a difference as a volunteer at Jewish Family Services of WNC!
JFS staff will lead a training for their Friendly Visitor volunteer program, which pairs volunteers with socially isolated elders for a regular visit. The volunteer program is open to those ages 18 and over.
The training will be on February 14th from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the JFS office: 2 Doctors Park, Suite E, Asheville, NC 28801. (For GPS use 417 Biltmore Ave, then when you enter Doctors Park go to Building 2, Suite E.)
Light snacks will be served!
Jewish Family Services welcomes current and new volunteers to learn tips to work with elders both in the home and at their Elder Club program. Jewish Family Services is always in need of substitutes for their Elder Club, which is an evidence-based socialization and respite program for folks 55 and up.
Participants will learn about all of Jewish Family Services’ volunteer opportunities, including:
• The Friendly Visitor program, and why it’s important
• Tips when visiting an elder: communication, recommendations, connecting
• How to respond when encountering difficult situations, personalities, requests and histories
• Recommended steps when encountering potential health and safety concerns
To reserve a spot, please contact JFS Administrative Assistant Judy Avalon at admin@jfswnc.org or call 828-253-2900. Not able to attend but want to get involved? Let JFS know and they will be in touch!
