The Jewish Community Relations Council is accepting applications from interested participants to serve on this important community organization. Applications will be accepted through April 15 and should be sent to director@bethisraelnc.org.
The following information, including participant application, can be downloaded here.
Jewish Community Relations Council participant make up, selection of new members and terms:
Council participant make up
The JCRC of Asheville will be made up of up to 15 individuals at any time. Members will be selected for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to: professional skills, being representative of diverse Jewish organizations, representative of broader community connections, school systems, ages of children, and/or current or prior school or university administration or faculty status. The goal is that the make-up of the committee is a well-balanced representation of all of the above-listed skills, perspectives and experiences. The committee will make every effort to include at least two students representing different school systems/charter schools/universities and ideally representing different religious institution affiliations.
Selection of new members
Those interested in serving on the council can either be nominated by someone on the committee or can be self-nominated. All applicants will complete an interest form and that interest form will be reviewed by the JCRC nomination committee. The task force will meet with the interested candidates in person and make a formal recommendation to the JCRC at their following meeting. This process will occur in/around April of each year with recommendations made to the full committee at the May meeting.
Once a candidate is invited to join the council, an ‘orientation’ of sorts will occur with at least one current member of the committee and the new arrival. They will review any on-going initiatives and current discussions, the committee’s mission and purpose statement, confidentiality policy and full committee contact information.
The interest form is the last page of this document.
The nomination task force will be made up of at least 3 people from the existing JCRC members. The task force will be a gender balanced committee.
Terms
A term will be three (3) years for adult members and will be adjusted for our student members. This recommendation will allow for fresh perspectives and energy to rotate onto the committee regularly. It is the hope that all participants commit to a minimum of 1 full term (3 years) at the beginning of their service.

I have read the mission and purpose of the JCRC and am interested in being a part of the council. I understand that much of what is discussed in the meetings and communications is confidential. I also understand that the JCRC strives to have the committee made up of individuals that represent a variety of different demographics, institutional affiliations and professional skills.
