This year, the Asheville JCC shared Hanukkah with over 1300 elementary students through our “Hanukkah in a Box” program. This program was made possible by volunteers, coordinated by Natalie Kramer. Volunteer Jo Yona Kelvin shared the “Hanukkah in a Box” program at Charles C. Bell Elementary. “We had a hanukkiyah, candles, the Hanukkah story and a version of I Have a Little Dreidel,” she explained. “We also were given enough dreidels for everyone with instructions on playing the game – which the children did and had fun.”
Jennifer Griffin, a kindergarten teacher at Haw Fletcher Elementary, said, “We really really enjoyed the program this year. My students were so excited and engaged. We had already learned a bit about Hanukkah prior to your visit and they were so thrilled to apply what they had already learned and interact with a real menorah and dreidel. Our presenter was fabulous with the kids and really helped them to apply some good sharing and cooperative learning skills while they played the dreidel game.”
“The engaging Hanukkah in a Box program, put on by the JCC, is one that our Kindergarten students at Evergreen Community Charter School will not soon forget! The program was educational, thoughtful, and above all else, a ton of fun! The student especially enjoyed the lively music. Thank you so much to the talented educators at the JCC. ” – Sarah Holland
