Shabbat Shalom Y’all!
Today we observed Yom Kippur during Shabbat with Penny. Because it was raining, we made a “river” out of paper and demonstrated how to throw our “sorries” into the river and wash them away to begin the new year. Typically, we use the garden, but decided to improvise because of the weather.
Talk with your children about how they have the opportunity to apologize for not making a good choice and then start fresh for the new year! What an amazing opportunity for us all to reflect and then have a chance to renew!
Yom Kippur – Friday, October 3th at 10am in the Garden
The ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur gives us time to reflect on the beginning of the New Year and what it means to become better people. Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement. At Shalom, the children will have an opportunity to cast off their “I’m sorry’s” into the new river rock bed in the children’s garden, a tradition known as tashlich. The tradition of tashlich (which literally means “to cast off” in Hebrew) is usually performed by tossing crumbs into a moving body of water and it symbolizes our letting go of our previous year’s wrongdoings, releasing them, and allowing them to be carried away. This tradition reminds us that we should not be burdened by our mistakes and it helps us to remember that we can always begin anew. We think about things we are sorry about and how we might do better in the future. The idea of forgiveness is explored.

SURPRISE!
In honor of Rosh Hashanah, I decided to get married last week!
Cameron, Harper and I enjoyed a really nice small ceremony on Curtis Creek in Old Fort. We are very excited to start the new year as a new family together!
For those of you who may not have heard, I am also pregnant and due in February 2015!
Lots of appreciations for the well wishes and “Mazel Tov”’s!
I will be phasing into my new name, KATE BRANTLEY soon, so if you see that on some paperwork somewhere, now you know that is it just me!
Thank You for sharing your children with us,
Have a great weekend!
