The Sugihara Refugee Story
December 4, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
During this lecture, genealogist Mark Halpern will cover one Polish Jewish woman’s journey from the town Kalwaria Zebrzydowska in southern Poland to Santa Monica, California. The woman was able to use a transit visa written and signed by Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat who helped rescue Jews during the war by giving them transit visas through Japan, to ultimately obtain US citizenship. Halpern will cover her incredible 11-country journey using genealogical methods and records.
