We had only two days this week before school closed for Teacher Work Days. As usual, we packed in a whole lot of fun activities.
Monday’s field trip to Chimney Rock Gem Mine was such great fun! The children were thrilled to mine for their very own gems. The excitement showed on each face with every new stone that showed up in the sieve. Each child came home with quite a haul! The instructors at the mine showed the kids a large geode that they then cracked open for all to see . Each child was given a piece of that geode to add to their collection of rocks. We were also given a gem guide to identify each rock that we found.
After mining,we headed down to the river to play on the huge boulders and to look for more gems in the sand. We then went up some very steep stairs to eat in the room provided to us by the folks at River Watch Deli. The dining deck looked out over the Rocky Broad River and up at the chimney of Chimney Rock Park! It was beautiful~! Thanks to the owners of the Deli for letting us use their lovely facility.
THANK YOU to the parents that accompanied us on the trip. We always welcome the extra help and involvement.
Tuesday we cleaned out and sent everything home from each child’s cubby. We will scrub them clean during our work days to start fresh for Summer. Please remember to restock with extra clothes that that are appropriate for the hot summer weather. Thanks.
